Former Kano Emir Sanusi, Elumelu, Mrs Saraki, Others Arrive New York For UNGA 78

Former Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi; Group Chairman, Heirs Holdings, Tony Elumelu; wife of the former Senate President, Dr. Toyin Saraki; and other notable Nigerians have arrived in New York for the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Bellnews reports that those who graced the Assembly are renowned music artist Yemi Alade and Disc Jockey (DJ) Florence Otedola, also known as DJ Cuppy. Popular poet and writer Ms. Karimot Odebode will also attend. Additionally, Damilola Ogunbiyi, the Special Representative of the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy For All (SEforALL), lends her expertise to the event.

The former Emir, Sanusi II, engaged in a film screening titled ‘The Agreement, the making of the SDGs,’ followed by a panel discussion alongside UN Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed.

Yemi Alade, serving as the Goodwill Ambassador for the UNDP, graced the opening of the SDG Action weekend with a performance. On his part, Tony Elumelu met with Liberia’s President George Weah, further strengthening international ties. Meanwhile, Dr. Toyin Saraki actively participated in the SDG Action Weekend.

The 78th UNGA commenced on Tuesday, September 5, and the eagerly anticipated high-level debate is set to commence on Tuesday, September 19. This session holds significance as it marks the halfway point towards achieving the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Leaders from around the world will gather for the SDG Summit, taking place on Monday and Tuesday, to assess the progress made in implementing the 2030 Agenda and the 17 SDGs.

The theme of the summit is “Rebuilding trust and Reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards peace, prosperity, progress, and sustainability for all”
