Five out of the six sisters from the Al-Kadriyar family, who were recently abducted by bandits in the Bwari area of Abuja, have been successfully released on Saturday night.
As of the time of this report, independent verification is pending to determine whether the girls were rescued by security operatives or released after their family paid a ransom.
Kabiru Aminu, an uncle to the girls, announced the news of their release on his X handle @kabiru_aminu, sharing a video showing the sisters and their relatives celebrating. He tweeted, “#Najeebahandhersisters are home right now, someone please wake me up!” In a follow-up tweet, he added, “#Najeebahandhersisters. These girls are strong.”
The six sisters, along with their father, were kidnapped recently. Subsequently, the gunmen released their father, instructing him to procure N60 million as ransom for the release of his daughters by Friday, January 12.
In an attempt to raise funds, Nigerians were urged to donate any amount into a designated bank account. However, the amount collected was reportedly insufficient. Displeased by the situation, the gunmen allegedly killed the eldest of the six sisters and left her body for her parents to bury.
Following the tragic killing of Najeebah, the Nigeria Police Force assured the public that efforts were underway to rescue the remaining victims. The police emphasized ongoing plans to prevent further kidnapping cases across the country.
