Five Confirmed Dead as Container Falls on Bus in Anambra

A fatal auto crash involving an L300 commercial bus and a Leyland truck has claimed the lives of five passengers and injured five others on the Nteje-Awka Expressway in Anambra State.

Bellnews reports that the accident, which occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Friday, involved 10 victims – three males and seven females.

An eyewitness said the accident was caused by a failed portion of the road in the area. The eyewitness said the two vehicles were coming from opposite directions, but on getting to the bad spot, the container on the truck fell on the bus and crushed some of the occupants.

The Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the accident, saying five people died while five others sustained varying degrees of injury.

The FRSC rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje took the injured victims to Divine Care Hospital, Umunya, for medical attention, while the dead ones were taken to Chira Hospital for doctors’ confirmation before they would be deposited at the New Jerusalem Mortuary, Nteje.

The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Anambra State, Adeoye Irelewuyi, who sympathized with the families of the deceased wished the injured victims quick recovery. He also urged motorists to drive with caution and be observant of their environment while driving.
