An indigene of Anambra State, Mrs. Adachukwu Kukelu Okafor, who is accused of inflicting severe burns on the private parts and body of her 10-year-old maid, has been declared wanted by the Federal Government.
The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, announced this declaration during a press conference held on Monday, February 12, in Abuja. She revealed that Mrs. Okafor, believed to be a lawyer, has been evading authorities since the incident occurred.
Kennedy-Ohanenye disclosed, “I have decided to intervene in the case of Mrs. Adachukwu Kukelu Okafor, who allegedly burned her 10-year-old house help with a hot knife and hot iron in Anambra state. Despite changing her contact information, she continues to post on social media, claiming immunity from prosecution.”
Expressing urgency in apprehending Mrs. Okafor, the Minister urged Nigerians to assist in locating her. A bounty of two million naira has been placed on her, and the Women’s Affairs Ministry is offering this reward to anyone who aids in her capture, provides information leading to her arrest, or facilitates her surrender to the police.
Kennedy-Ohanenye emphasized the need for swift action, stating, “The girl is in pain and in the hospital. It could be your child or relative tomorrow, so let’s not stand idly by.”
In addition to pursuing Mrs. Okafor, the Minister announced plans to address the issue of underage maids, expressing intent to enforce existing laws prohibiting the employment of individuals under 18 years old as domestic help.
The incident, which sparked outrage on social media, involved a video circulating online showing the victim, a naked little girl, with severe burns on her buttocks, private area, body, and face.
