Tragedy struck in the early hours of Saturday as three individuals lost their lives in an accident near Mowe on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The incident was attributed to a container that fell off a truck bearing number plate T-1563 LA, trapping the three victims who were reportedly occupants of a Howo truck without a visible number plate.

According to Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the crash was also the result of dangerous driving leading to a loss of control.

Despite efforts by the FRSC rescue team to save the lives of the victims, including the driver and two passengers, the trio succumbed to their injuries due to the impact of the crash. Their remains were subsequently deposited at a morgue in Sagamu.

In a statement issued by the FRSC, it was disclosed that the rescue operation was carried out around 01:07 am on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, involving two trucks – one with registration number T-15636LA Bluebird and the other a Howo Truck without a visible number plate. All three individuals involved were male adults.

The FRSC noted that dangerous driving and loss of control were suspected to be the causes of the crash.

Efforts to manage the situation included contacting a tow truck to clear the road and a crane to remove the fallen container. FRSC operatives remained on the scene to ensure traffic flow.

In light of the incident, the FRSC emphasized the importance of defensive driving and consideration for other road users. Motorists were urged to anticipate the actions of fellow road users, avoid reckless driving, and adhere to traffic rules and regulations to prevent accidents.
