Tragedy struck on Saturday as five individuals lost their lives in a solitary fatal accident on the Benin-Ore-Lagos Expressway.
The Ondo State Police Spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami, confirmed the incident in a statement, revealing that several others sustained injuries in the mishap.
According to the official statement, the accident occurred around 04:30 pm in the vicinity of the Akinfosile area along the Ore/Lagos expressway. It involved a Toyota Hiace Bus with Registration Number FKG 405 FX, which was traveling from Akure to Lagos before somersaulting and veering off the road into the bush.
The statement reads, “Today, at about 04:30 pm, around Akinfosile area along Ore/Lagos expressway, the Police received a report that a Toyota Hiace Bus with Registration Number FKG 405 FX from Akure en route to Lagos, while on the journey, somersaulted and veered into the bush.”
Rescue efforts were swiftly initiated, with injured victims being transported to the nearest hospital, Grace of God Hospital, while the deceased were taken to the hospital’s mortuary.
An ongoing investigation seeks to uncover the cause of the accident, while authorities are working to notify the families of the passengers involved.
