Godwin Emefiele, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, is presently in court, seeking a modification of his bail conditions. Emefiele is facing trial on six counts related to procurement fraud amounting to N1.2bn.
In a departure from previous court appearances accompanied by stern-looking armed security personnel, this marks the first time Emefiele is entering the courtroom without such an escort. He had been released from the Kuje Custodial Centre on December 23, 2023, 34 days after being granted bail by the judge.
Currently, Justice Hamza Muazu of the FCT High Court is considering arguments regarding the requested adjustments to Emefiele’s bail terms.
