Gundogan scored twice and Rodri also found the back of the net inside five minutes to help Manchester City beat Liverpool to the title
Liverpool’s quest for an unprecedented quadruple is officially off after they were beaten to the Premier League title on a dramatic final day by Manchester City.
City came from two goals down to beat Aston Villa 3-2 while Liverpool also came from behind to register a 2-1 win over Wolverhampton at Anfield.
Manchester City 3-2 Aston Villa
Having won 14 of their 18 home games so far this season, City were overwhelming favorites for victory in their final game at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Pep Guardiola and his players knew they needed to win to be sure of the title as a draw or loss could spell doom.
Contrary to expectations, it was Aston Villa that raced to a two-goal lead against the Cityzens before they clawed their way back to victory to successfully defend the Premier League title.
Matty Cash in the 37th minute and Philippe Coutinho in the 69th had given Villa an awkward two-goal lead before the Cityzens turned the tables.
Ikay Gundogan scored twice and Rodri also found the back of the net inside five minutes to give City the crucial three points that installed them as the 2021-2022 champions in dramatic style.
Elsewhere, Arsenal hammered Everton 5-1 at the Emirates but it proved inconsequential as they were beaten to a top-four finish by Tottenham Hotspur who also ran riot beating already relegated Norwich City 5-0.
At the bottom, Burnely failed to beat the drop as their 2-1 loss to Newcastle United meant they would be competing in the Championship next season
