The Federal High Court 2 sitting in Asaba, Delta State, on Thursday granted bail to Delta-born journalist, Tega Oghenedoro, popularly known as Fejiro Oliver.
Bellnews reports that Oliver had been remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre for nearly three weeks after his arrest in Abuja over allegations of cyberstalking.
The Inspector General of Police had earlier filed a case accusing Oliver of cyberstalking Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and Senator Ede Dafinone through a series of Facebook posts described as defamatory.
The police later amended the two-count charge in a suit marked FHC/ASB/163c/2025, signed by CSP Gladys Imegu, R.O. Eze and Dr R.O. Ishiguzo.
At his arraignment, Justice Olufunmilola A. Agbaje had initially adjourned the ruling on Oliver’s bail application to October 16, 2025, while ordering his continued remand.
However, after fresh submissions by his counsel, human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, the court granted Oliver bail on Thursday, directing that he be released under strict conditions pending trial.
Before the arraignment, Effiong had filed a fundamental rights application at the Federal High Court in Asaba, challenging Oliver’s prolonged detention without trial.
The court subsequently ordered the Nigeria Police Force to show cause within 48 hours why Oliver should not be released unconditionally, after he had already spent 16 days in custody.
