The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the terrorism trial of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz, to March 10, 2026.

Bellnews reports that the delay came after the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, requested more time to review the case files.

The matter was recently moved from the Department of State Services to the Department of Public Prosecutions, and the prosecution needed time to get familiar with the details.

The lawyers for the defendants did not oppose the request but urged that the case should be struck out if the prosecution fails to start the trial on the new date, citing what they described as slow progress.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted the adjournment and instructed the prosecution to begin presenting its case on March 10.

The trial is expected to continue on the rescheduled date as the court awaits the prosecution’s presentation of evidence.

The Department of State Services (DSS) charged Mr Malami and his son earlier this year with counts that include alleged terrorism financing and unlawful possession of firearms.

Prosecutors said part of the accusations relates to actions taken while Malami served as attorney-general, especially in how certain files were handled during his tenure.

The court granted them bail of ₦200 million each in those terrorism‑related counts, with strict conditions that include providing sureties with property in Abuja.

Separate from the terrorism allegation, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) re‑arraigned Malami, his wife and his son on a 16‑count money laundering charge linked to billions of naira in alleged unlawful funds.

They have all pleaded not guilty to those counts.
