Kingibe, who spoke on Channels Television on Monday, said Wike “does not understand the needs of the people and he is not meeting their needs.”
The Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe, has stated that the residents of Abuja will deal with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike in the coming local government (LG) election in Abuja.
Kingibe, who spoke on Channels Television on Monday, said Wike “does not understand the needs of the people and he is not meeting their needs.”
She said, “The truth is that the people of the FCT resent Wike. They are not happy with his attitude and his failure to meet their needs.”
She said the forthcoming local council elections would serve as a referendum on the minister’s performance in the territory.
“The people will show him who owns the FCT during the council polls,” she added.
Bellnews had reported the lack of basic amenities across several Abuja communities with little or no government’s attention.
One of them is Chetta community, Gaube Ward, Kuje Area Council, FCT Abuja, which is at a risk of contracting waterborne diseases as they rely on water from a site taken over by illegal gold miners for their daily usage.
With their only stream having dried up during the dry season, the locals have no other option but to use the contaminated water for drinking, cooking, and other basic needs.
Monitng, a civic technology platform, had raised the alarm about the growing health risks in the community after a recent visit.
“The situation is taking a heavy toll.
Children go to school without bathing, nursing mothers find it difficult to care for their newborns, and women are left vulnerable during their menstrual periods,” the platform reported.
The lack of access to clean water has already led to a rise in waterborne diseases, endangering the lives of community members.
Despite efforts from both past and present administrations, Chetta and many other underserved communities in Abuja continue to struggle with a fundamental issue: the need for access to clean and safe water.
