The Oraifite community in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State has raised allegations against Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the lawyer representing the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu. The accusations were made by the Traditional Ruler of Oraifite, Dr. Daniel Udorji, and the President-General, Sir Vin Dike, during a joint press conference held at the Oraifite Civic Centre.
The community leaders cited recent incidents of kidnapping and the alleged killing of a 38-year-old youth leader as evidence of Ejiofor’s purported involvement in fueling insecurity. They further disclosed an ongoing dispute between Ejiofor and Chief Sir Emeka Ofor, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, who is also a member of the Oraifite community.
According to the leaders, Ejiofor has allegedly utilized a masquerade organization called ‘Otueke’ to carry out kidnappings, harassment, and intimidation within the community. Consequently, the community has imposed an immediate ban on the ‘Otueke’ festival due to concerns about security.
Addressing the press conference, Chief Vincent Dike, the President-General, accused Ejiofor of betraying the community’s trust despite being a beneficiary of Sir Emeka Ofor’s generosity, who reportedly supported him through his education. Dike expressed dismay over Ejiofor’s alleged involvement in criminal activities and urged government and security agencies to intervene.
Similarly, Igwe Daniel Udoji, the traditional ruler of Oraifite, called on the community to defend itself against external threats and praised Sir Emeka Ofor for his contributions to the community’s development.
In response to the allegations, Ejiofor denied any involvement in criminal activities and dismissed the accusations as baseless and malicious. He maintained his commitment to upholding the law and emphasized the need for transparency in addressing security concerns.
The situation underscores growing tensions within the Oraifite community and highlights the complexities surrounding issues of security and accountability.
