Coal City Film Festival Set for Fourth Edition in March

The organizers of the Coal City International Film Festival have revealed the official selection of 41 films for its highly anticipated fourth edition, slated to take place from March 21 to March 23 in Enugu State.

Uche Agbo, the festival’s founder and Executive Director, who also serves as the Chairman of the Nigerian Film Festivals Association, announced the lineup. He highlighted that the chosen films were curated from a pool of over 100 submissions spanning 33 countries across Africa, Europe, Asia, South and Northern America, and the Middle East.

Renowned writer and director Jude Idada heads the jury for the 2024 edition, supported by members Chichi Nworah, Theo Ukpaa, Dr. Charles Okwuowulu from Ndufu-Alike, and Prof. Atul Marewad.

Agbo underscored the festival’s vision, aiming to showcase the cultural richness of South East Nigeria to the global stage through the medium of film.

The fourth edition of the festival is set to unfold at the scenic Nike Lake Resort and Hotel, known for its tranquil ambiance.

Speaking on the festival’s theme for 2024, “Cultural Renaissance,” Agbo emphasized its focus on utilizing film as a catalyst for revitalizing pride in Nigeria’s heritage, fostering cultural rejuvenation, and igniting innovative expressions of diverse traditions and customs. The discussions will also encompass technology, fashion, finance, health, and culture, exploring how film can contribute to strengthening these sectors.

The Coal City International Film Festival (CCIFF) stands as an annual celebration of African cinema, nestled in the heart of South East Nigeria in Enugu. It offers a platform for both local and international delegates to immerse themselves in the vibrant film culture, tourism, and hospitality offerings of the historical coal city.
