Residents said the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, just hours before Amaechi was expected to formally register with the party at the ward.

Suspected political thugs on Friday morning set ablaze a ward office of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ubima, the hometown of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Residents said the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, just hours before Amaechi was expected to formally register with the party at the ward.

Sources alleged that the attackers were loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Both Wike and Amechi are former governors of the state.

According to sources in the community, the assailants stormed the ADC ward office in Ubima and set the building on fire, destroying party materials and other items inside the facility.

“Thugs loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike burnt down ADC ward office in Ubima, the home town of Rotimi Amaechi early Friday morning,” a resident said.

“This comes ahead of his party registration today.”

The attack is believed to be linked to heightened political tensions in the area ahead of Amaechi’s planned registration with the African Democratic Congress.

No casualties were reported as of the time of filing this report.

Amaechi, a former Minister of Transportation, hails from Ubima in Ikwerre Local Government Area and remains a key political figure in the state.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, were unsuccessful.

When contacted by SaharaReporters, Iringe-Koko said, “I don’t understand what you are talking about, send me a text message,” before abruptly hanging up.

A text message seeking her official reaction was subsequently sent to her line; however, she had yet to respond as of the time of filing this report.
