The Nigerian Senate has announced its plan to reconvene for plenary on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Emmanuel Odo, the Clerk of the Nigerian Senate said he has been directed by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio to inform all lawmakers about the notice.
According to Odo, the plenary will sit at 11 am in the Senate Chamber.
Odo said, “I am directed by His Excellency, the President of the Senate, Sen. Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON to inform all Distinguished Senators that the Senate will reconvene plenary session as follows; date: Tuesday, 17th February, 2026.”
He also stated that all members of the Nigerian Senate are expected to reschedule their initial engagement for the notice.
“Consequently, all Distinguished Senators are kindly requested to note and reschedule their engagements accordingly to enable them to attend as very crucial decisions will be taken on National issues, during the Session,” Odo said.
Recall that the Nigerian Senate had earlier embarked on a two-week break to enable lawmakers focus on the budget defence for different Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
While it is not clear, what exact “national issues” will be discussed, as noted by the Senate, this notice obviously brings the break to an end
