Aggrieved members of the Rivers State Sports Council have staged a protest at the entrance of the Government House in Port Harcourt.
The demonstrators, made up of coaches and officials under the council, accused the state government of failing to pay their award entitlements after participating in the 2025 Ogun Sports Festival.
Carrying placards with various inscriptions, the protesters demanded settlement of the outstanding funds.
It was gathered that the officials are angered by the failure of the state government, under the sole administration of Ibokette Ibas, to release the payments due them for their performance at the sports event.
The festival, tagged Gateway Games, Ogun 2024, was held between May 16 and May 30, 2025.
Meanwhile, Sole Administrator Ibas is expected to vacate office on Thursday as his six-month mandate, granted by President Bola Tinubu in March, comes to an end.
