In a recent development, the court has dismissed the treasonable felony charge against activist Omoyele Sowore. This decision comes after the Federal Government, represented by the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, filed a notice of discontinuance last week.

The notice cited legal provisions empowering the Attorney General to discontinue the case. Subsequently, the charge against Sowore, the convener of the #RevolutionNow protest, was struck out during the court session today.

Justice Nwite, presiding over the case, emphasized that since the proceedings were commencing anew before him, it was imperative to remove the charges. Consequently, he ordered the charges to be struck out.

Furthermore, the Federal High Court in Abuja directed the Department of State Services (DSS) to return three phones, Sowore’s passport, N10,000, and a phone belonging to the second defendant, Olawale Bakare.

This decision marks a significant development in the legal saga that began in 2019 when Sowore and Bakare were arraigned before the court for organizing the “Revolution Now” protest in Abuja.
