The Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Borno State Command, Abubakar Balteh, has died in a fatal road accident.
Bellnews reports that the Borno State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday by its Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso.
According to the statement, the senior officer passed away on February 21, 2026, following a vehicle crash.
“The Borno State Police Command regrets the passing of ACP Abubakar A. Balteh, who died today, 21st February, 2026, in a fatal vehicle accident.
“Until his demise, he served diligently as the Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Borno State Command,” the statement read.
Daso added that details of the burial arrangements would be communicated in due course.
He prayed for the repose of the deceased officer’s soul, saying, “May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest.”
Bellnews understands that the development comes months after the command lost its Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID, Ahmed Ibn Umar, who died in November 2025 after a prolonged illness at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
Police authorities described Balteh as a committed officer who served the command with dedication until his death.
