There has been a fresh wave of terror attacks in the garrison town of Bassa in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
Bellnews learnt that the assault began at 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, with sporadic gunshots being shot.
According to local sources, the attack is the latest in a series of violent incursions by the terrorist group, which has been terrorizing Bassa for months.
“When the attack started this morning, the security operatives told residents to stay indoors while they exchanged fire with the assailants,” a source said.
In a previous attack earlier this year, Boko Haram fighters killed several soldiers, including a captain, prompting the withdrawal of troops from the town.
However, following the deployment of joint security operatives by the government, most residents returned to Bassa, hoping for a measure of peace.
