Birmingham City Football Club has officially terminated the contract of Wayne Rooney as the teamโ€™s manager, as announced in a statement released on Tuesday. The decision comes due to Rooneyโ€™s failure to meet the clubโ€™s expectations, leading to a change in management.

The statement from the club read, โ€œDespite their best efforts, results have not met the expectations that were made clear at the outset. Therefore, the Board feels that a change in management is in the best interests of the Football Club.โ€

The clubโ€™s Board and management expressed gratitude to Wayne Rooney and First Team Coach, Carl Robinson, for their efforts. The statement emphasized the commitment to rebuilding Birmingham City and bringing success to St. Andrewโ€™s.

Garry Cook, the Chief Executive Officer, stated, โ€œUnfortunately, Wayneโ€™s time with us did not go as planned, and we have decided to move in a different direction. The search for a successor begins with immediate effect, and we will update supporters when we have further news.โ€

Professional Development Coach Steve Spooner will take interim responsibility for Menโ€™s First Team matters, and the remaining coaching staff will continue their duties to assist Spooner. Wayne Rooney, appointed as Blues boss in October, won only two out of 15 Championship matches during his tenure, with the club slipping from sixth to 20th in the table.
