Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed a businessman and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward leader, Alhaji Abdullahi Kpotun, along with his son during a failed abduction attempt in Lile village, Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State.

A source who spoke to Bellnews on Wednesday disclosed that the attack occurred on Tuesday night when the assailants stormed the victim’s residence.

The gunmen ended up killing Kpotun and his son.

According to the source, the armed men did not stop at Kpotun’s household.

“It was not only his family the bandits attacked last night, they attacked another family and killed someone there too,” the source said.

Efforts to get a response from the Kwara State Police Command proved abortive.

When contacted, the command’s spokesperson, Ejire-Adeyemi Adetoun, neither answered calls nor responded to messages sent to her.

On June 3, 2025, Bellnews reported that suspected gunmen launched coordinated attacks on communities in Patigi and Ndanaku, both located in Kwara North Senatorial District, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, including a pharmacy owner.

The attacks were said to have occurred shortly after Muslim worshippers concluded the Ishai prayer.

One of the victims was identified as the Chief Executive Officer of Biskad Pharmacy in Patigi, who was reportedly shot while the assailants attempted to abduct her.
