Former Vice President of Nigeria and 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, who was killed by her abductors in Abuja. Atiku took to his official handle on Sunday to condemn the gruesome incident and emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive reform of the country’s security architecture to address the growing menace of kidnappers and bandits operating with impunity.

In his statement, Atiku highlighted the continuous challenges posed by criminal elements in the country and called for a reevaluation of the security strategies in place to ensure the safety of lives and property. He urged security agencies to intensify their efforts to rescue the remaining hostages held by the abductors.

Expressing his sadness, Atiku stated, “I am saddened by reports of the brutal murder of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, who was abducted with her siblings and has been in the custody of their abductors for almost two weeks. This is yet another reminder that kidnappers and bandits are operating unhindered in our country.”

He further emphasized the need to revamp the security architecture to curb the unchecked activities of criminal elements, stating, “The security architecture needs to be rejigged to the extent that it stems the free rein of criminal elements and guarantees the safety of lives and property.”

Atiku concluded his statement by calling on security agencies to escalate their actions to rescue the remaining hostages and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, a 400-level biological science student at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, was abducted alongside her siblings, including Najeebah (500 level, Quantity Surveying) and Nadheerah (300 level, Zoology). The bandits had initially demanded a ransom of N60 million from the family, which was later increased to N100 million after Nabeeha’s tragic murder.

The incident has triggered widespread public outrage on social media, with Nigerians demanding justice for Nabeeha and the release of her abducted siblings. The Nigeria Police Force, in response to the outcry, assured the public that efforts were underway to rescue the remaining hostages, seeking additional information to aid their operation.
