In a strategic move to foster closer collaboration with the Anambra State Government, the ASATU Youth State Executive team, led by His Youthfulness, Comr. Ken Okoli, yesterday paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Augustine Onyekachi Ike, Chairman of the Anambra State House Committee on Youth Development and Sports. The high-level meeting took place at the Anambra State House of Assembly Complex, Awka.

The core purpose of the visit was to officially inform the House Committee Chairman of the proposed change in nomenclature from ASATU (Anambra State Association of Town Unions) to ASTUC (Anambra State Town Unions Council). The rebranding aims to bring the organization closer to government operations and align more effectively with the developmental goals of the state.

Comr. Okoli, while addressing the Honourable Member, emphasized the urgent need for synergy between the legislative arm and the youth wing of ASTUC. He stressed the importance of ensuring that Anambra youths are not just seen but heard, and actively involved in policy formulation and governance.

“The proposed transition to ASTUC is more than just a name change,” said Comr. Okoli. “It represents a deeper integration of our communities with state governance and a renewed commitment to giving the youths of Anambra State a definitive voice in the affairs that shape their future. We are calling on the government, through you, Honourable Chairman, to collaborate with the National Youth Wing of ASTUC to ensure this vision becomes a reality.”

In his response, Hon. Augustine Onyekachi Ike, who also represents Nnewi North Constituency in the State Assembly, expressed profound appreciation for the timely visit. He praised Comr. Ken Okoli for his bold leadership and described him as “a man who knows when and how to move in the right direction.”

“I am indeed proud of what the ASATU Youth Wing is doing under your leadership,” Hon. Ike remarked. “This initiative to restructure and align closer with government is commendable. You have my full support as Chairman of the House Committee on Youth Development and Sports, and I pledge my readiness to work with the ASTUC Youth Wing to champion the cause of Anambra youths.”

The meeting ended on a note of optimism and renewed partnership, with both parties agreeing to maintain an open line of communication and to jointly pursue initiatives that will empower youths across the 21 local government areas of the state.

With this development, the ASTUC Youth Wing is charting a new course for youth inclusion and representation in Anambra State, one that may well shape the next generation of leaders.
