In a remarkable show of support during challenging economic times, St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Nnewichi, Nnewi, has taken a proactive step by covering the examination fees for its members. The church, recognizing the financial strain faced by some of its members, generously paid for various examination fees, including those for the West African Examination Council (WAEC), National Examination Council of Nigeria (NECO), Basic Education Certificate Education (BECE or Junior WAEC), National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE), and First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC).
According to reports, St. Mark’s Anglican Church disbursed significant amounts to cover the expenses of its members’ examinations. For WAEC and NECO exams, ten individuals received assistance, with each candidate receiving ₦80,000 in support. Additionally, the church funded the BECE (Junior WAEC) exams for fourteen members, contributing ₦20,000 each, and covered the FSLC exam fees for ten individuals at ₦15,000 each.
This compassionate gesture from St. Mark’s Anglican Church reflects its commitment to the welfare and educational advancement of its members, even amidst economic challenges. It is not the first time the church and its Vicar, Ven. Arinze Anene, have extended such benevolent acts to the community.
Previously, Ven. Arinze Anene facilitated the provision of free petrol to commercial motorcycle riders in Nnewi, demonstrating a keen sense of community support. The church also organized free fuel supply initiatives for Okada riders on multiple occasions and distributed complimentary food to artisans in need.
Furthermore, St. Mark’s Anglican Church has consistently engaged in humanitarian efforts, including distributing free fuel to Okada and Keke riders and providing essential food items to widows in the community. These actions underscore the church’s commitment to alleviating the burdens faced by its members and the broader community, reflecting its core values of compassion and solidarity.
