Emmanuel Amuneke, a former Nigerian international, has officially thrown his name into the ring for the Super Eagles coaching job.
Amuneke disclosed this during a conversation with renowned journalist Osazu Obayiwana.
“Yes, I did apply to be the next manager,” he confirmed.
The Nigeria Football Federation declared the coaching position vacant on Friday following the expiration of the contract of former coach Jose Peseiro.
Interested coaches were invited to apply for the prestigious position, with specific requirements outlined by the NFF.
At 53, Amuneke stands as one of the prominent candidates to succeed Peseiro.
With over a decade of coaching experience, Amuneke boasts an impressive resume. He has previously managed the Nigeria U-17 team and served as head coach for the Tanzania national team.
During his playing days, Amuneke left an indelible mark as a dynamic winger, particularly remembered for his contributions to Nigeria’s victory in the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations. His stellar performance included scoring two goals in the final match, securing the championship for Nigeria.
