A former governor of Osun State and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has issued a stern warning to Governor Ademola Adeleke, cautioning him against defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Oyinlola, speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Thursday, described any move by Adeleke to dump the PDP for the APC as a grave political misstep that could end his political career.
The warning follows Governor Adeleke’s recent endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as his preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election, a move that sparked speculation about a possible defection to the APC.
Though Adeleke has not officially announced plans to join the ruling party, Oyinlola insists that mounting pressure is being exerted on the Osun governor to switch sides.
Oyinlola said, “APC has not fared well with the people of Osun.
“Telling him to roll over to APC will mean ruining his political future. Obviously, the people will not go along with that. He knows that, but there is pressure on him.”
Oyinlola also raised concerns about the non-release of local government allocations in the state, which he said has persisted for six months and is severely affecting grassroots governance.
He said, “It’s now six months since the local government allocation in Osun state has been withheld, which means the people of Osun state have been shortchanged because the local government is no longer running.
“As governor, whom the people have reposed their confidence in to govern them well, he must do something to ensure that the government is running well.”
