Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has officially declared his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the broader interests of the state’s residents as his motivation.
Speaking in a statewide broadcast early Friday, Fintiri said the decision was aimed at ensuring the welfare and development of Adamawa citizens.
“This defection is anchored on the desire to ensure the welfare and development of our people. I urge everyone to remain steadfast and give the government the support and understanding necessary to realize the dividends of democracy,” he said.
The governor also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts in reviving the national economy and pledged to work closely with the federal government to deliver tangible results for the state.
Fintiri’s announcement brings an end to weeks of speculation over his political alignment and formally confirms his move from the PDP to the APC.
“Our goal remains the growth and development of Adamawa, and this step allows us to collaborate with the federal government to advance our people’s interests,” he added.
