The Labour Party (LP), Kaduna State chapter, has clarified that the appointment of Nenadi Usman as the National Caretaker Chairman of the party followed the expiration of Barrister Julius Abure’s tenure.

Mr Yusuf Solomon Danbaki and Sani Sahabi, Chairman and Secretary of the State Labour Party Interim Committee, in a statement issued in Kaduna on Saturday, said, “It is important to clarify that the tenure of Barrister Julius Abure and all his appointees ended on June 9, 2024. The rejection of Nenadi Usman’s appointment appears to stem from a reluctance to accept this reality.”

The party thanked Auwal Tafoki for his past contributions and service as the former State Chairman of the party, stating, “It is crucial for the party to move forward.”

According to the statement, the appointment of Nenadi Usman, facilitated by Governor Alex Otti and supported by the former presidential candidate Peter Obi, members of the national and state assemblies, the NLC, TUC, the gubernatorial candidates forum, and all other stakeholders, is a necessary step to ensure the party’s survival and effectiveness.

The statement further explained, “The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has ceased all dealings with Barrister Abure and his appointees, making it imperative for the party to adapt and embrace the new leadership.”

The statement added, “Change can be challenging to accept, but it is essential for the Labour Party to remain relevant and functional.”

It urged all members and stakeholders to support the new leadership for the betterment of the party and its future in the country.
