After an ordeal lasting 11 days in the clutches of kidnappers, Prof. Godwin Emezue, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration of Abia State University, has been released.
Sources close to the professor’s family revealed to The PUNCH that the kidnappers had initially demanded a ransom of N35 million for his release.
“The kidnappers went as far as releasing distressing footage of the professor’s suffering, along with threats of harm if the family didn’t meet their demand of N20 million by last Saturday,” the source disclosed.
Currently, Prof. Emezue is undergoing medical treatment in an undisclosed medical facility due to the physical and psychological toll inflicted by his captors.
The Abia State Police Command had previously confirmed his abduction at a filling station in Umuahia, the state capital, over two weeks ago.
Emezue’s release finally came on Tuesday night, marking the end of a harrowing ordeal for him and his loved ones.
