Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode, has said that the aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), commonly called G5, are “welcome” to align with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bellnewsonline.com reports that Fani-Kayode, who is one of the spokespersons of the APC Presidential Campaign Council (APC-PCC), said that the G5 “probably have no other option” than to support the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.
Recall that the G5 came into being amid the crisis in the PDP over calls for Senator Iyorchia Ayu to step down as National Chairman of the PDP.
The group — which includes Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Samuel Ortom of Benue, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu — is also referred to as the ‘Integrity Group’.
Apart from the governors, the group comprises PDP stakeholders who have insisted that Ayu has to step down on the grounds that the chairman and presidential candidate (Atiku Abubakar) cannot be from the same region (North).
“I have to commend their courage. They call themselves the integrity group now and anybody that has integrity is welcome in our ranks and is welcome to align with us, and that would be a wonderful thing,” Fani-Kayode said in a recent interview with the BBC.
“I hope they have the courage to say ‘listen, we are going to support the candidacy of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’ because they probably have no other option.
“I don’t see them supporting Peter Obi (Labour Party). Certainly, they won’t support Atiku -not after what he did to them.”
