Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji was a Nigerian professional footballer who played as a midfielder.
Besides being a footballer, he was also a qualified lawyer, who had a masters in international law from the Pontifical Lateran University of Rome.
At club level, he spent his youth career at AS Roma and later went on to play for clubs like Dinamo Zagreb, Austria Klagenfurt, VfB Stuttgart, SSV Ulm and K. Berchem Sport.
At international level, he played for Nigeria at AFCON 1988 where he scored against Cameroon in a 1-1 draw in the group stage. He also played for the Nigerian Olympic team in 1988.
During a 1990 World Cup qualifier match between Nigeria and Angola on 12 August 1989 in Lagos, Okwaraji slumped ten minutes to the end of the game- and consequently died, aged 25.
Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji death was as a result of possible complications of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, as an autopsy revealed that he had an enlarged heart and high blood pressure.
