The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has claimed that the governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, once told him that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar hates him.

Wike stated this while inspecting ongoing projects in Jahi and Kuje in Abuja.

According to the FCT Minister, Mohammed flew down to Port Harcourt and confided in him that he would never support Atiku.

Wike said: “In 2022, when President Tinubu emerged as the presidential candidate of the APC, Governor Bala Mohammed flew down to Port Harcourt to meet me and said we have to support Tinubu, that he can never work with Atiku.

“It didn’t even take four days; the same Bala moved to support the same Atiku.

“Even this recent meeting we had at my Abuja residence, Bala said he knows Atiku hates him and that he’ll never support him..so that’s why he can’t go to APC and that we should reconcile in PDP.

“This same Bala has now moved to Atiku’s party. What kind of character is that?”

Meanwhile, Wike has stated that some individuals are not happy that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are working together.

He stated this on Monday while addressing a joint gathering of PDP and APC stakeholders at his official residence in Life Camp, Abuja, on Monday night.

Wike cautioned against the “rush” for endorsements and the internal divisions caused by personal ambitions.

The minister emphasised that the group’s current political standing was built on unity and commitment rather than financial influence.

He warned that external forces are actively seeking to divide the ranks of the stakeholders because of their successful collaboration.

“If we were not working together, if we were not united, it would be difficult. People are not happy that we are working together, so they must find anything to make sure we are divided,” Wike stated.

He, however, expressed disappointment in certain individuals who, after receiving appointments through the group’s influence, have turned around to castigate the leadership.

The minister described such behaviours as a failure of character and warned that those seeking to displace others through deceit would not succeed.

“Woe be unto the person that we have given an appointment [who] goes back to castigate,” he said, noting that many who once sought his mentorship can no longer look him in the eye.

On upcoming political cycles, Wike dismissed rumours of private endorsements for local offices, insisting his public and private positions remain identical.

He maintained that the only endorsement currently recognised is for the presidency.

Wike stated he has not endorsed anyone for the PDP or APC at the state level and will not do so until elders meet. He reaffirmed that the only person the group has officially endorsed is President Bola Tinubu.

The minister stressed his transparency, stating, “Anything I say in the night is what I will say in the daytime.”

Wike commended the council chairmen, Rivers elders and the leadership of both parties for their coordination in bringing the delegates together.

He noted that the lack of complaints regarding the “carrying along” of members was a testament to the success of the gathering.
