The suspect, Ilechukwu Venesa Amara, aged 32 years, was eventually arrested after initially attempting to evade arrest by misleading Police Operatives into believing she was not the individual being sought.

Her statement was obtained under caution on 24th February 2026.

She was subsequently granted administrative bail, taking into consideration her condition as a single mother of two children, and was directed to report back the following day.

However, following actions indicating an attempt to dishonour the bail conditions, including circumstances that led to her surety being threatened with arrest, the bail was revoked. Consequently, the matter was promptly charged to court the next day.

During court proceedings, key evidence tendered included the mobile phone allegedly used in defaming the complainant, as well as video and voice recordings in which the suspect admitted to the offence and pleaded for forgiveness.

The court thereafter granted her bail pending the continuation of proceedings.

Following her arraignment, the suspect, Ilechukwu Venesa Amara, aged 32 years, allegedly made attempts to engage bloggers to alter and misrepresent the narrative of the case on social media.

However, upon interaction with some of the bloggers with the complainant and a review of the available information, some of the bloggers observed inconsistencies in her claims and declined involvement on ethical grounds.

Subsequently, the suspect resorted to producing and circulating additional video publications on her own, with the apparent intent to influence public perception and mislead members of the public.

The Command further states that at no point during the course of investigation was any threat to life established in relation to the matter.

Her neighbour, whom she alleged was employed by the complainant to deal with her was invited by the Operatives.

Interrogation of the neighbour shows he has never or even met the complainant before in his life.

ANAMBRA POLICE INTERCEPT SERIES OF SOCIAL MEDIA CLIPS BY A FEMALE SUSPECT IN A CASE ALREADY BEFORE COURT; WILL NOT SUCCUMB TO BLACKMAIL

The Anambra State Police Command has intercepted a series of social media clips circulated by a female suspect, one Ilechukwu Amara Vanessa, aged 32, in a matter currently before a competent court of law. The Command views the action as a calculated attempt to mislead the public and exert undue influence on ongoing judicial proceedings.

The Command noted that the suspect, during the course of investigation, admitted to defaming the complainant through a social media publication and pleaded for forgiveness.

Following her arraignment, the suspect was granted bail by the court. However, she has allegedly continued to publish and circulate video clips aimed at propagating false narratives, distorting facts, and interfering with the due course of justice.

The Command warns that such actions may constitute offences under relevant Nigerian laws, including but not limited to Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 (as amended), relating to cyberstalking and the transmission of false or offensive messages, as well as acts capable of amounting to contempt of court by attempting to prejudice or interfere with judicial proceedings.

The Command reiterates that it will not succumb to any form of blackmail, intimidation, or misinformation campaign, and assures Ndi Anambra that due process will be strictly followed in the handling of the case.

The Anambra State Police Command remains committed to upholding justice, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that all matters are handled strictly in accordance with the rule of law.
