Former lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani, on Monday cautioned against escalating global tensions, stating that military aggression by Israel and the United States against Iran was unnecessary and dangerous to world peace.

In a post shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, the ex-senator argued that Iran does not constitute a threat to the United States, warning that unilateral military actions outside the framework of the United Nations could destabilise the international order.

“The Nation of Iran doesn’t pose a threat or danger to the US. The act of aggression is unnecessary and unfortunate. Unilateral actions based on military might that circumvent the UN and violate international law sets the world on a dangerous path,” he wrote.

Sani further criticised individuals who support war from afar, noting that many of those advocating conflict are not directly exposed to its devastating consequences.

“Most of those supporting, encouraging and cheering wars are people whose children, wives or parents lives far from the theatre of war,” he added.

The former senator emphasised the value of peace, urging people to reflect on the privileges of daily life often taken for granted in conflict-free regions.

“If you can drop off your kids in school this morning, go to work or school or open your shop this morning without thanking your God, you don’t know what wars or peace means,” he stated.

Describing war as devastating rather than entertaining, Sani concluded, “War is not a PlayStation or Nintendo game.”

His comments come amid heightened global tensions and ongoing debates over military interventions and international law.
