A Nigerian teenager based in the UK, Jackson Uwagboe, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the killing of 21-year-old Robert Robinson.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed in a statement on Wednesday that Uwagboe was sentenced to life at the Old Bailey.
“Jackson Uwagboe, 19, of Hamilton Street, Lewisham, was found guilty at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, 10 February, of murdering 21-year-old Robert Robinson in a dispute over a stolen bicycle,” the police said.
The court ruled that Uwagboe must serve at least 21 years before he can be considered for parole.
His co-defendant, Eromosele Omoluogbe, 24, had earlier been convicted of perverting the course of justice for helping him travel to Heathrow Airport in an attempt to flee to Nigeria.
Before Uwagboe’s sentencing, two other men, Ryan Wedderburn, 18, and Kirk Harris, were also convicted and handed life sentences over Robinson’s murder at the Old Bailey in May last year.
Detective Inspector Neil Tovey, who led the investigation, welcomed the verdict, stating, “Today’s verdict brings justice for Robert Robinson and his family.
“Robert was subjected to a brutal and sustained attack by a group of men armed with knives. He was unarmed, already wounded, and on the ground when Uwagboe attacked him.”
