The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has dismissed speculations that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, would accept being a vice presidential candidate in the 2027 elections.
Tanko dismissed such reports while speaking during an interview with Arise News on Tuesday.
According to him, Obi did not go around the world to become a Vice President, but went around the world to become the President of Nigeria.
“He said he did not go around the world to become a vice president.
“He went around the world to learn so that he can be number one — to be the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Tanko said, quoting Peter Obi’s words.
Bellnews reports that he added that Obi is only interested in the presidency, and the Obidient movement would support him all the way.
“As far as we are concerned, we are interested in running for the presidency, and anywhere Mr Peter Obi goes, we the Obidient will go with him,” he added.
On Obi’s chances against the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 election, Tanko said the former Anambra State Governor stands a great chance.
He explained that Peter Obi now has better structures and support compared to when he first ran for the presidency in 2023.
“Let me be modest — he has a very fantastic chance,” he said.
“This is somebody who was not given any chance in 2023 and still ended up with what we believe was a winning election.”
Tanko added that Nigerians are tired of the APC government and see Obi as a credible alternative.
“Nigerians are tired,” Tanko said. “They are looking for somebody who has the capacity, the consistency, the credibility and the character to turn around the fortunes of Nigeria.”
