Popular TikTok influencer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command following a reckless driving incident that ended in a road crash.

His arrest comes after a video of the incident spread widely on social media, sparking outrage and concern among Nigerians.

The video showed Peller driving at a dangerous speed before losing control of his vehicle and crashing during a live-stream session. The incident immediately raised questions about public safety and the growing trend of risky online stunts by social media influencers.

The Lagos State Police confirmed that the arrest was carried out after the incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025.

According to the police, the influencer’s actions posed a serious threat to his life and to other road users.

In an official statement, the police said, “The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained, for further investigation, Habeeb Hamzat aka ‘PELLER’, subsequent to the viral video that surfaced online on Sunday 14th December, 2025, in which he was seen driving recklessly, leading to a dangerous road crash and serious motor accident, while the incident was being live-streamed, thereby endangering his life and that of other road users”.

The command described the act as extremely dangerous and warned that it could have resulted in loss of lives.

It added that such behaviour would not be treated lightly, regardless of the individual’s social status or online popularity.

The statement further read, “His action constitutes a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endangers the lives of other innocent people”.

Police authorities disclosed that the case has now been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation. They stressed that the process would be transparent and handled in line with the law.

According to the police, “The case is currently being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). The outcome of the investigation will be made public, and the suspect will be charged to the court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law”.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a strong warning to social media influencers, content creators, and members of the public. He cautioned against the misuse of online platforms to promote dangerous or unlawful activities.

The police statement noted, “The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, strongly warns social media influencers, content creators and general members of the public to desist from using social media platforms to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous, or unlawful and criminal acts”.

The commissioner further warned that the command would no longer tolerate such actions and would apply the law without compromise.

The statement added, “Such lawlessness will not be tolerated, and the full weight of the law will be applied on any offender. The Command further urges all road users to comply strictly with traffic regulations and remains committed to ensuring public peace and safety at all times.”

Many Nigerians have called for stricter enforcement of traffic laws to discourage influencers and other motorists from engaging in risky behaviour for online attention.
