Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has said the meeting of Northern States’ governors over insecurity in the region is long over due.

Sani urged the governors to proffer practical solutions that would annihilate terrorism and restore peace in the North.

Posting on X, Sani wrote: “The ongoing meeting of Northern Governors in Kaduna to address the region’s recent upsurge in terrorists violence is long overdue.

“The terrorists and bandits unleashing mayhem in the region are majorly from the region.

“They should come out with coordinated, effective and practical solutions that will annihilate the criminals and restore peace and order in the affected communities.”

On Monday, Governors and traditional rulers from the 19 northern states met at the Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna, for a high-level security summit convened under the Northern States Governors’ Forum, NSGF.

The meeting, hosted by Governor Uba Sani, is expected to focus on the worsening security situation across the North, with leaders set to review recent developments and recommend practical, long-term solutions to the crisis.

Other key issues affecting regional development and governance are also listed for deliberation.

The summit comes days after the North-West Zonal Public Hearing of the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on National Security, where northern leaders pushed for a three-pillar approach to tackling insecurity.
