A former Military Administrator of Bauchi State and Etsu of Bassa Nge, Brigadier-General Abu Ali (retd.), has been reported dead.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, in a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, on Monday, November 24, 2025, described the late traditional ruler as a dignified leader defined by humility, integrity and unwavering service to humanity.
Bellnews reports that General Abu Ali served as Bauchi’s military administrator from September 1990 to January 1992 under the administration of General Ibrahim Babangida.
Governor Mohammed said his tenure left a mark on the state through bold reforms and infrastructural development.
“His tenure was marked by remarkable developmental initiatives and commitment to the welfare of our people,” the governor said.
He highlighted key achievements credited to the deceased, including the Bauchi township water project, the consolidation of the Tomato Processing Company and the founding of Wikki Tourists Football Club.
The Bauchi State Governor also praised the late military administrator for his decisive leadership during the 1991 ethno-religious unrest that erupted in Tafawa Balewa and adjoining communities.
He acted decisively to restore peace, imposing a curfew and deploying security forces. His firm yet thoughtful approach helped stabilise the situation and prevented further escalation,” Mohammed recalled.
The governor commended General Abu Ali’s humility and commitment to democratic order, noting his dignified handover to a civilian administration in January 1992.
After leaving military service, the late General became the Etsu Bassa Nge, a first-class traditional ruler in Kogi State, a role he held since 2000. Governor Mohammed said the monarch’s reign reflected wisdom, cultural preservation and dignified leadership admired across Nigeria.
“Late General Abu Ali was known for his humility, integrity, and dedication. His life was a model of service to his soldiers, to the people of Bauchi, and to his cultural community,” Governor Mohammed said.
In the statement, Mohammed extended condolences to the late General’s family, especially his children, and to the Bassa Nge Kingdom in Kogi State.
He urged the people of Bauchi to pray for the family and for the peaceful repose of the deceased.
“May the memory of Brigadier-General (Rtd.) Abu Ali continue to inspire us all as a servant-leader, a visionary, and a man of courage and compassion,” he added
