Emerging reports have revealed that the Senator representing Enugu North Senatorial zone, Barr Okey Ezea died in Lagos State, Nigeria.

This is contrary to earlier information that he passed on in London, United Kingdom.

A highly placed source disclosed to Bellnews that the lawmaker died in Lagos from complications arising from diabetes.

According to the source, Ezea had one of his legs amputated as doctors battled to save his life.

“Ideke had diabetes and had returned from the UK. He was being treated in a hospital in Lagos where he had had one of his legs amputated due to complications from the ailment.

“The doctors were doing skin graft to cover the amputated leg when he gave up the ghost,” the source revealed.

Meanwhile the family has confirmed his demise.

A statement to that effect was issued by his son, Jideofor Ezea.

According to him, “The Senator died at a private hospital in Lagos at about 11:07 p.m. on Tuesday, 18th November, 2025, after a brief illness.

“Until his passing, he remained the only federal lawmaker from Enugu State elected on the Labour Party platform in 2023 who, on principle, refused to defect to the ruling party – standing firm against the pressure to ditch the party that sponsored him to the senate.

“Senator Okey Ezea is survived by his wife, Chioma, and four children.

“As we mourn this painful loss, we respectfully request prayers for the family during this difficult time.”

Bellnews reported that members of the Nigerian Senate have started penning emotional tribute to the deceased Senator.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, and Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, described Ezea’s death as heartbreaking.
