The National Secretary of the New Nigeria Peoples Party(NNPD) Dr. Ogini Olaposi, has clarified that plans to join the All Progressives Congress are all by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiya Movement, not the NNPP.
Olaposi, who spoke in Lagos on Monday, said Kwankwaso’s declaration confirms that he and his movement are no longer part of the NNPP, having earlier been expelled for anti-party activities. He stressed that any negotiations with him should be done in his personal capacity.
The clarification comes after Kwankwaso, a former Kano governor and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, announced on Saturday that he and his supporters were ready to join the APC, though warning that his group would not allow itself to be used and abandoned after elections.
Olaposi noted that the NNPP has nothing against the APC and may consider alliances in the future, but such decisions will be made collectively by party members. He said the NNPP is now focused on rebuilding its structures nationwide ahead of the 2027 general elections.
