Former security guards known as Happie Boys visited Apostle Gift Chinyere at his church, Omega Power Ministries in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Sunday, September 14.
Bellnews understands that the visit drew attention because of their troubled past with the clergyman, who was once their benefactor.
During the service, the duo spoke before the congregation and alleged that they had been influenced by individuals they described as enemies of the Apostle.
According to them, those persons persuaded them to attack the cleric publicly, with promises that they would be taken to the United States in return.
“We were misled by people who wanted to harm you. They promised us opportunities abroad if we went against you, but we now see that we were wrong to follow them,” they told the congregation.
The boys first gained public attention in 2023 after being dismissed from their security jobs for dancing while on duty.
Their sacking led to an emotional appeal online, which attracted the attention of Apostle Chinyere.
Moved by their situation, he awarded them scholarships to study abroad, covering their relocation to Turkey.
However, the relationship soured after they accused him of abandoning them in Cyprus. They claimed that after six months of support, he stopped sending funds, leaving them stranded.
The Apostle later explained that Nigeria’s struggling economy made it difficult to sustain their scholarships.
He advised them to return home or transfer to Benin Republic to continue their studies, but they refused.
