Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, a member of the House of Representatives representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, has said that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has yet to decide his political direction amid speculations of a possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Jibrin made the remark during an interview with Deutsche Welle (DW) following his visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.
His meeting with the President has sparked rumours of ongoing discussions between Tinubu and Kwankwaso, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, regarding a potential alignment with the ruling APC.
Responding to the speculation, Jibrin said, “My visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not unusual. Everyone is aware of my relationship with the President, just as they know the long-standing political respect between him and our leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Both are political giants.”
He stressed that he is not in a position to confirm or deny reports of Kwankwaso’s planned defection.
“Only Kwankwaso can make that decision,” he said. “It is also a matter that concerns the President. I am too young to reconcile such political titans, but reconciliation is always a welcome development.”
Jibrin also dismissed claims that he was acting as a mediator.
“I am not a hypocrite. If there were any messages from Kwankwaso that I needed to relay to the President, I would do that. Likewise, if the President had anything for Kwankwaso, I would deliver it. That is not a problem.”
