The Labour Party (LP) in Anambra State has officially endorsed the emerging political coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the move as a bold step toward realigning Nigeria’s opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a press memo released on Thursday, July 3, in Awka, the Anambra State Caretaker Committee, led by Chairman Mr. Peter Okoye, declared full support for the coalition.
The memo, signed and distributed to the media, confirmed that the national leadership of the Labour Party including former presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi is actively involved in the coalition talks.
“This strategic collaboration aligns with the Labour Party’s mission to deepen democracy, promote good governance, and empower the Nigerian people,” the statement read.
The Anambra LP said Peter Obi’s personal role in the coalition effort underscores the significance of the move.
“His participation reflects the seriousness and prospects of this new political realignment,” the party said.
The statement urged all members, supporters, and stakeholders across Anambra to embrace the coalition effort.
“Together, we will continue building a formidable force that reflects the true will of the people—especially the hardworking citizens of Anambra,” it added.
The party said further guidelines and directives on the coalition would be communicated in the coming days.
They also praised their members for remaining committed to the Labour Party’s values and for staying politically engaged.
Political analysts say the coalition could prove decisive ahead of the 2027 elections.
Observers believe it may reshape the dynamics of opposition politics and present a credible challenge to the ruling APC.
