A young mother, Blessing Ibuku has explained why she threw her 10-month-old baby, Prevail Jonathan into a community river in Delta State.
Ibuku was paraded at the Delta State Police Command alongside 30 other suspects who committed various offences on Tuesday, December 17.
Briefing journalists on the arrests made so far, the Delta state commissioner of police, Abaniwonda Olufemi said Ibuku threw her child into the river because he was mocked for being fatherless.
Olufemi said, “These suspects were arrested in the past month. While we have faced challenges, the support of other security agencies, stakeholders, and the good people of Delta State has enabled us to restore peace to a reasonable extent.”
According to Olufemi, the 10-month-old baby was reported missing on December 4, but his lifeless body was recovered from Aviara community river.
He stated that during investigation, Ibuku confessed to the crime.
She said she threw the baby into te river on November 31, because her friended teased her for having a “bastard” child.
Olufemi said Ibuku is currently in the custody of the police while investigation is still ongoing on the matter.
