The Enugu State Police Command has reported the successful rescue of the security guard who was abducted alongside a senior female nurse from the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) on Tuesday.
DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, issued a statement confirming the rescue operation.
According to Ndukwe, following the abduction of the security man and the nurse by armed criminals on March 12, 2024, at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital in Ituku-Ozalla, Nkanu West Local Government Area, the security man has been safely recovered by Police Operatives.
The rescue took place at Ishi-Ozalla within the same local government area at approximately 11:45 p.m. on the day of the incident. This successful outcome followed the immediate and intensive operations launched by the police to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
In response to the ongoing situation, Commissioner of Police CP Kanayo Uzuegbu has instructed police operatives, alongside complementary teams from the Neighborhood Watch Group, Forest Guards, and Local Vigilantes, to redouble their efforts to secure the release of the female nurse and to bring the abductors to justice.
Ndukwe also urged the public, particularly residents of the Ituku-Ozalla community and surrounding areas, to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals within their neighborhoods or in nearby forests. Reports can be made by calling 08099854883 or emailing infoenugupolice@gmail.com.
