Pope Francis took to Twitter on Sunday, February 25, 2024, to address the alarming increase in kidnappings in Nigeria. He expressed deep concern and conveyed his prayers for the Nigerian people, urging concerted efforts to curb the escalating incidents.
“The increasingly frequent kidnappings in Nigeria are extremely concerning,” Pope Francis tweeted. “I express my closeness in prayer to the Nigerian people, hoping that efforts will be made to contain the spread of these incidents as much as possible.”
The Pope’s remarks come amidst a surge in abductions for ransom across various regions of the country. Even the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has witnessed such incidents, with kidnappers targeting certain estates and border communities.
