A somber atmosphere enveloped the Head Bridge Market in Onitsha, Anambra State, following a tragic incident where a stray bullet, allegedly fired by members of the Anambra State task force, ended the life of a promising young graduate, Arinze Obunadike.
Arinze, a recent political science graduate from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, found himself amidst the chaos as traders scattered to evade members of the task force who were reportedly pursuing individuals urinating in the vicinity of the market. In the midst of the commotion, witnesses recounted that a task force operative discharged a firearm at close range, resulting in the untimely demise of Arinze.
Described as an ambitious young man with aspirations of furthering his education abroad, Arinze had recently returned from Malaysia and harbored dreams of pursuing studies in either the United States of America or Canada. His sudden passing has left his elderly mother, unaware of her son’s tragic fate, and the entire community in mourning.
Eyewitnesses painted a vivid picture of the chaotic scene that unfolded at the market, with traders and bystanders fleeing in panic as tensions escalated during the confrontation.
