INEC Reports 4.6 Million PVCs Collected for Upcoming Saturday By-Elections

A total of 4,613,197 Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) have been successfully collected by voters in anticipation of the rerun and by-elections scheduled for February 3, according to information released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on its official platform.

The breakdown reveals that 2,189,171 PVCs were obtained by voters for the by-elections, while 2,424,026 PVCs were collected specifically for the rerun elections. Additionally, it was disclosed that over 8,500 Bimodal Voters Authentication System units and more than 35,000 ad-hoc staff will be deployed for the upcoming elections.

For proper oversight, the commission has enlisted the participation of 74 domestic observers and one international observer to monitor the February 3 elections. The elections will cover two senatorial districts (Ebonyi South in Ebonyi State and Yobe East in Yobe State), three state constituencies (Chibok in Borno State, Chikun in Kaduna State, and Guma in Benue State), and four federal constituencies (Akoko North East/Akoko North-West in Ondo State, Jalingo/Yorro/Zing in Taraba State, Surulere 1 in Lagos State, and Yauri/Shanga/Ngaski in Kebbi State).

The rerun elections, mandated by court orders, will take place in one Senatorial district of Plateau Central and 13 federal constituencies, including Surulere 1 (Lagos), Gauri/Shanta/Ingaski and Arewa/Dandi (Kebbi), Akoko North East/North West (Ondo), Jalingo/Yorro/Zing (Taraba), Ikono/Ini (Akwa Ibom), Akamkpa/Biase (Cross River State), and Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency (Sokoto State).

Furthermore, rerun elections are scheduled for state constituencies in Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Enugu, Kaduna, Kano, Nasarawa, Niger, Oyo, Sokoto, and Zamfara.
