The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) has revealed its intention to reinforce security at the Kuje Custodial Centre in Abuja, addressing the escalating insecurity prevalent in various regions of the country, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Adamu Duza, the spokesperson for the FCT Command, shared this development during an interview with The PUNCH on Wednesday. The FCT has recently witnessed a surge in security challenges, notably exemplified by the abduction of six sisters and their father by bandits in the Bwari Area Council. Tragically, the killing of one of the girls, Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, has triggered widespread outrage, emphasizing the critical need for enhanced security measures.
To prevent a recurrence of the July 5, 2022, jailbreak at the Kuje Custodial Centre, Duza stated, “The FCT Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service is collaborating with sister security agencies to strengthen security in and around our custodial centers in the nation’s capital. Currently, all security agencies are actively present in our facilities, working in synergy to secure our custodial centers.”
He further enumerated the security agencies attached to the facilities, including the Nigerian Army 176 Guard Battalion, Nigerian Army 102 Guard Battalion at Suleja, DSS (FCT Command), Mopol 21 PMF, Mopol 50 PMF, NPF/CTU (B Div.) at Kuje, NSCDC (FCT Command), and NIS (FCT Command).
Duza reassured Nigerians, stating, “We want to assure Nigerians that all custodial centers under our command are peaceful and calm.”
